Congratulations to journalist Ken Sweeney, whose documentary for Radio Nova, ‘The Trashcan Sinatras’, has won Finalist at this year’s ‘New York Festival Radio Awards’!

The band who were formed in Irvine on the west coast of Scotland in 1986, are renowned for albums such as, Cake, I’ve Seen Everything, and Weightlifting. Presented by Ken Sweeney, the documentary also saw guitarist John Douglas head back to Shabby Road in Kilmarnock, former music studio of The Trashcan Sinatras.

It’s the second major award for the documentary, having won Silver at the 2024 IMRO Radio Awards for ‘Music, Arts & Culture Documentary’.

Ken Sweeney has been a journalist for over a decade working with the Herald, Irish Star, Sunday Tribune, and Irish Independent. From Dublin’s Navan Road, he first worked in advertising and trained as a copywriter.
